The research company Canalys has taken a look at the global smartphone market, and it shows that Samsung is doing pretty well. According to the analysis, Samsung is said to be the largest company in smartphones and appears to be in full swing in the U.S. market, although it is still not in the lead here.
With a solid annual growth of 252 per cent, Samsung supplied 27.3 million smartphones under its own brand in the previous quarter, securing a market share of 23 percent. In addition, the company delivered an estimated 500,000 units worldwide under the brand names Google and T-Mobile.
The global smartphone market as a whole has seen a significant growth in the current period. 120.4 million units have been shipped, representing a growth of 49 percent on an annual basis. In the U.S., the world's largest market for smartphones, HTC with its popular Incredible 2 and many other models is still in the lead, however, at the expense of Apple and Samsung.
HTC delivered 5.7 million units, ahead of Samsung's 4.9 million and Apple's 4.6 million. Samsung took away second place from Apple. Not surprisingly, Canalys also reports that the Chinese smartphone market is in strong growth. It grew shipments by 160 percent to 23.2 million units annually, only 200,000 units short of the total deliveries in the U.S. market.
