A new breed of smartphone models are coming our way. We have long been stuck at 1.0 to 1.2 GHz dual-core models and a screen resolution of 800 x 480 in the top models. However, the LG Optimus LTE offers an improvement on both fronts, with a 720p IPS display and dual-core 1.5GHz processor plus support for 4G.
The smartphone industry develops at a furious pace, and it certainly looks like what we might call the next generation of smartphones is on the way. LG Optimus LTE is one of those new handsets, and it was just launched in Korea. In addition to a high-performance processor, LG has squeezed in a 4.5-inch display with 720p resolution and support for 4G.
LG's Optimus LTE LG-SU640/LU6200 comes with two cores running at 1.5 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of built-in storage. It is also supplied with a 16GB MicroSD card and supports MicroSD cards up to 32GB. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and as for networking and connectivity it is equipped with LTE and HSPA+ support (4G). The HD-capable display has an incredibly high 1280 x 720 resolution.
The camera in the rear is an 8.0-megapixel variant with autofocus and the phone's front-facing camera has a 1.3-megapixel resolution. It has an HDMI port and supports DLNA. Wi-Fi is of course also included and the battery capacity is 1830 mAh.
Its high-res screen comes from LG's display division, which has developed the IPS panel for the purpose called True HD IPS. The phone will first be available in Korea, and according to LG it's the first phone that can offer streaming of live and high-definition content over the 4G network.
LG hopes to be at the forefront of the market with products and handheld devices that support LTE/4G, and frequently mention that it was the first manufacturer to demonstrate 4G technology in 2007, and put out the world's first LTE modem circuit in 2008. Additionally, LG was first with video calls using 4G technology.
The LG Optimus LTE is already launched in Korea today, and although the company plans to launch it outside of Korea, we have not seen a date for when this is supposed to happen. It competes with its LG's arch-rival Samsung's similar model Galaxy II HD LTE, which has roughly the same specifications in terms of display, processor and high-speed data technology.
