Incredible 2 360

The HTC Droid Incredible 2 has a striking design--most notable is that the back part is not at a flat horizontal surface, but is rather somewhat unconventional in its design, something that makes the phone comfortable in your hand. In other words the Incredible 2 differs slightly from the rest of the smartphone market, where there has been a lot of ingenuity in the last couple of years. In addition to making phone comfortable to hold, HTC has chosen a matte, almost rubberized back cover that provides plenty of friction.

The material provides a sense of a robust and solid build. The camera features two LED lamps that provide some extra light for taking pictures, or when you use the included flashlight app. The screen is 4 inches in size, which is a good balance for the 800x480 resolution. Its display type is called Super LCD, which seems to imply that the phone offers good color accuracy. Otherwise only HTC knows what this means exactly.

The buttons are illuminated and rotate when you rotate your phone ninety degrees, meaning that the home button remains correctly aligned even when you tilt the phone. On the left side of the phone, volume buttons and the micro USB port are located. It comes with Android 2.2 pre-installed, but HTC is quick when it comes to keeping the latest Android versions on their phones, so you can upgrade to 2.3 right away, which is recommended before doing anything else, to save you the hassle of backing up data that isn't already stored in your Google account.

As all other Android phones from HTC, the Droid Incredible 2 comes with the proprietary Sense interface, which is getting better with every update and easily outshines the original Android interface. For example, the font size us reduced somewhat so that more can fit on your screen without compromising readability. HTC also provides a wide range of proprietary widgets and more can be downloaded via the HTC Hub app--providing a second-to-none ability to personalize your smartphone.

HTC has integrated services such as Facebook and Twitter so that synchronization with existing contacts is even more elegant and simple. Some of the Sense widgets are also very useful, such as one-touch access to switch data traffic, Wi-Fi, flight mode and other features on and off. Moreover, the virtual keyboard is among the best on the market. All new HTC phones are also compatible with HTC's cloud service via htcsense.com. Logging in here will give you access to a control panel that allows you to remotely control the phone, which is an immensely practical feature should you lose your phone or have it stolen. Unauthorized users will need a PIN code to unlock it, but are permitted to call a number that you specify to announce that they have found it; otherwise you can choose to delete everything on the phone to protect your privacy if you believe that it's gone forever.

Via HTC Hub you gain access to a good range of extra sounds, widgets and more in addition to the apps bundled with Sense. You can replace all the system sounds and themes in different sets, to have one theme for work and another for home use, one for traveling and so on and so forth. Looking at the applications that come with the phone, you will find Amazon MP3, Friend Stream--an app for social media updates from Facebook, Flickr and Twitter--and much more. Quickoffice is also included for viewing PDFs and Office documents. Connected media enables you to send pictures, music and movies directly to another device.

Thanks to a 1GHz Scorpion processor under the hood and 768MB of RAM, the Droid Incredible 2 provides enough processing power for any application, even if it's not quite on par with dual-core phones. It's a tough market for Android phones out there, but the Incredible 2 is a very strong competitor.
